The Integrated Homestead: Elaborating the Theme

April 17 and 18, 2009
9 – 5 p.m. Friday, Airlie Center
9:30 a.m. - noon Saturday, Harvey Ussery’s homestead, Hume, VA
Cost: $90

Harvey Ussery is a local homesteader and frequent contributor to Mother Earth News. Boxwood, his one-acre homestead in Hume, VA, functions as a small-scale food-growing system with vegetables, poultry, mushrooms, medicinals, nut trees, berries, and more. In this full-day seminar and homestead tour, Harvey will share insights into running a successful modern homestead.

Expanding on his presentation from 2008, Harvey will not only discuss strategies for integrating the diverse elements of a homestead, but also offer an in-depth look at specific projects. Participants who attended last year’s workshop will enjoy the discussion as much as those who will be hearing from Harvey for the first time.
